Colonias de verano en inglés (Convocatoria 2012)

Recientemente se ha publicado la convocatoria de Ayudas para participar en el Programa de Inmersión lingüística en colonias de verano en inglés. Están destinadas a alumnado de 5º, 6º de Educación Primaria y 1º de ESO que cursa sus estudios en centros sostenidos con fondos públicos. El plazo de presentación de solicitudes estará abierto hasta el 25 de abril.

Treasure Hunt: Three Constitutions

On 6 December Spanish people remember the day we ratified our constitution. A constitution is the set of rules that establish the structure and duties of a government. It also guarantees certain rights to the people.

In this activity we will review some important aspects of the Spanish Constitution and we will learn some facts about the Constitution of the United Kingdom and the Constitution of the United States of America. The three of them protect the Human Rights.

Read these questions carefully and think if you can answer them:

1. Which of the three constitutions is the oldest? When was it written?

2. When was the Spanish Constitution adopted?

3. What happened on 6 December 1978 in Spain?

4. What is the main difference between the Constitution of the United Kingdom and the other two constitutions?

5. Name three rights American, British and Spanish citizens have.

6. Complete these sentences with one of these words: Parliamentary monarchy, constitutional monarchy, federal constitutional republic.

Sir John Cass Students visit El Fontanal

Last week 20 students from Sir John Cass School (London, UK) visited El Fontanal. Both schools have been involved in partnership programs for five years, including two intercambios escolares. Also, during this academic year, students from 2º ESO have been participating in a pen-pal project with students from this London school. The English students and their teachers also had the chance to visit and enjoy Lebrija for a day.

Our Language Assistants

As you know, today was Rosie and Nicola´s last day in our English class... and we are going to MISS them!!!! Well, the academic year went really fast and we are already in June; I have to say that it was a pleasure for all the teachers at the English Department to work with Nicola and Rosie and I think all the students with me... we learned SO MUCH and we had SO MUCH FUN! Hopefully everything will be OK and they will continue working at IES El Fontanal next year, but meanwhile we want to thank BOTH of you for your great work. Last week students from class 3B were performing the classic play Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare. There were two performances and both of them were AWESOME! Europe Day

Probably very few people in Europe know that on 9 May 1950 the first move was made towards the creation of the European Union. On that day, Robert Schuman, the French Foreign Minister, presented his proposal on the creation of an organised Europe, indispensable to the maintenance of peaceful relations. Today, the 9th of May has become a European symbol (Europe Day) which, along with the flag, the anthem, the motto and the single currency (the euro), identifies the political entity of the European Union.
Europe Day is the occasion for activities and festivities that bring Europe closer to its citizens and peoples of the Union closer to one another.

Earth Hour

On Saturday, March 26th at 8:30pm millions of people around the world will turn off their lights for one hour, Earth Hour, to join the largest call to action on climate change in history. You can also contribute!

St. Patrick´s Day

Saint Patrick’s Day is celebrated each year on March 17th. In Ireland, Saint Patrick’s Day is a national holiday. Saint Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland.

Although it began in Ireland, Saint Patrick’s Day is celebrated in countries around the world. People with Irish heritage remind themselves of the beautiful green countryside of Ireland by wearing green and taking part in the festivities.

Saint Patrick’s Day is usually celebrated with a parade. The one in Dublin, the capital of Ireland, is very famous. But the one in New York City is one of the biggest. In Chicago they even dye the river green every year.

International Women’s Day

International Women's Day (IWD) is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. In some countries like China, Russia, Vietnam and Bulgaria, IWD is a national holiday. The first IWD event was in 1911 so 2011 sees the Global Centenary.

For decades, IWD has grown from strength to strength annually. For many years the United Nations has held an annual IWD conference to coordinate international
efforts for women's rights and participation in social, political and economic processes. 1975 was designated as International Women's Year' by the United Nations. Women's organisations and governments around the world have also observed IWD annually on 8 March by holding large-scale events that honour women's advancement and while diligently reminding of the continued vigilance and action required to ensure that women's equality is gained and maintained in all aspects of life.

Peace Caravan: Olive Oil, Rice & Sugar for the Sahara People

Hi everybody!
Every month of December we have participate in the Peace Caravan, a school campaign to get basic products for the Saharawi people that live in the desert of Tindouf. Dear students,

The school year is almost finished. All the teachers in the English Department hope you have learned new things and wish you keep on learning. In the future you'll see how important it is to speak foreign languages. We'll think about new interesting things to do when we meet again in September.

International Food Fair

As you know, one of the workshops we organised to celebrate our tenth anniversary was an International Food Fair with dishes from the United Kingdom, the United States of America, China, Spain, Belgium, Morocco, Australia and India. Here you can see a video with all the dishes and a slide presentation.

The students really did a great job both as chefs and presenters. Thank you so much for your contribution!

Tenth Anniversary

As you know, we will celebrate our tenth anniversary between May 19 and May 21. The English Department has organised lots of interesting activities and workshops for you to have a good time and enjoy learning inteseting cultural aspects. Some students will go trekking to Balsa de Melendo while others will enter a ballroom dance contest, join a Spelling Bee competetion or enjoy an international food fair. Thanks for you cooperation!

III Spelling Bee - EL Fontanal Tenth Anniversary

Hello everybody!

Next Thursday May 20th students and teachers at I.E.S. El Fontanal will be celebrating the Tenth Anniversary of our high school. There will be different activities, sports, shows at the theater... during t
hree days (19th, 20th and 21st of May).

The English Department will organise the III Spelling Bee, a funny and interesting way of proving you are good at spelling. There will be 2 different contests, one for Primer Ciclo (1º and 2º ESO) and another one for Segundo Ciclo (3º and 4º ESO). You can review the vocabulary lists for each level and you can also have a look at the rules and the recommendations here.

There will be great prizes for the winners!!!
