Introduction:

Peace Caravan: Olive Oil, Rice & Sugar for the Sahara People


Hi everybody!
Every month of December we have participate in the Peace Caravan, a school campaign to get basic products for the Saharawi people that live in the desert of Tindouf. The Halloween Horror Tunnel

International Food Fair

As you know, one of the workshops we organised to celebrate our tenth anniversary was an International Food Fair with dishes from the United Kingdom, the United States of America, China, Spain, Belgium, Morocco, Australia and India. Here you can see a video with all the dishes and a slide presentation.
The students really did a great job both as chefs and presenters. Thank you so much for your contribution!

Tenth Anniversary

As you know, we will celebrate our tenth anniversary between May 19 and May 21. The English Department has organised lots of interesting activities and workshops for you to have a good time and enjoy learning inteseting cultural aspects. Some students will go trekking to Balsa de Melendo while others will enter a ballroom dance contest, join a Spelling Bee competetion or enjoy an international food fair. Thanks for you cooperation!

III Spelling Bee - EL Fontanal Tenth Anniversary


Hello everybody!

Next Thursday May 20th students and teachers at I.E.S. El Fontanal will be celebrating the Tenth Anniversary of our high school. There will be different activities, sports, shows at the theater... during t
hree days (19th, 20th and 21st of May).

The English Department will organise the III Spelling Bee, a funny and interesting way of proving you are good at spelling. There will be 2 different contests, one for Primer Ciclo (1º and 2º ESO) and another one for Segundo Ciclo (3º and 4º ESO). You can review the vocabulary lists for each level and you can also have a look at the rules and the recommendations here.

There will be great prizes for the winners!!!

Superlosers: A Play

Last Wednesday May 5th, all the students in 1º & 3º ESO went to Juan Bernabé Theater to watch the play Superlosers. It was really interesting and everybody had lots of fun. The actors were terrific and we even had some of our students on the stage: maybe they will become great actors in the future. We also want to congratulate all the students from El Fontanal for their excellent behavior. Have a look at some pics:

Please, for those of you interested (students in 4º ESO)in applying for the Escuela Oficial de Idiomas for the next academic year, keep in mind that during the month of March you need to send a pre-application. Check the EOI Website or have a look at the dates and requirements:

-PREINSCRIPCIÓN PARA EL CURSO 2010/11
- Todos los alumnos de nuevo ingreso o que hayan dejado los estudios durante un año académico y quieran continuarlos deben realizar una preinscripción durante el mes de marzo. Estos alumnos realizarán la matrícula entre el 1 y el 10 de julio, si han obtenido plaza después del proceso de baremación.

-REQUISITOS.

1 Cumplir los 16 años antes de finalizar el año natural. Esto es hasta el 31/12/2010.
2 Los candidatos que cumplan 14 años antes de finalizar el año natural, se podrán matricular en un idioma distinto al que estén cursando en el nstituto.

Documentación:

Fotocopia del DNI del solicitante y del padre madre o tutor legal si el solicitante es menor de edad (anverso y reverso por la misma cara).
Documento de preinscripción cumplimentado por duplicado.
Los alumnos menores de 16 años, certificado del instituto del idioma que estén cursando como primera opción.

- Los alumnos que ya estén matriculados realizarán su matriculación en las siguientes fechas:
· Del 1 al 10 de julio si aprueban en la convocatoria ordinaria de junio
· Del 1 al 8 de septiembre si aprueban en la convocatoria extraordinaria de septiembre

-Los alumnos libres deben matricularse entre el 15 y el 30 de abril en la EOI más cercana a su domicilio.

The II Spelling Bee was a Success

Last Wednesday 24 February the English Department celebrated Andalusia Day by organising the II Spelling Bee at our school. The contest was a complete success, mainly due to the effort and colaboration of all the contestants. The final was really exciting and these are the names of the best spellers:


Winner: Ana Muñoz Sánchez (1º A)


First finalist: Sergio Antonio Sánchez Arriaza (2º C)

Second finalist: Daniel González Gómez (1º A)

Programa de Inmersión Lingüística - 1º ESO


Hola,

Se convocan, en régimen de concurrencia competitiva, 1.600 ayudas para la participación en una de las colonias de dos semanas de duración, organizadas por el Ministerio de Educación durante el mes de agosto de 2010.

Estas ayudas se distribuyen a su vez en dos grupos: Primero y segundo, de acuerdo con los requisitos que para cada uno de ellos se establecen en el apartado siguiente:

1.200 ayudas de hasta 456 euros para el grupo primero.
400 ayudas de hasta 156 euros para el grupo segundo

Para alumnado que esté en:

Quinto curso de Enseñanza Primaria
Sexto curso de Enseñanza Primaria
Primer curso de Enseñanza Secundaria Obligatoria

y que:

no podrá superar los 13 años a fecha 5 de septiembre de 2010.

II El Fontanal Spelling Bee

I Have a Dream

Last 19 January American people celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Do you know who he is? He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. You can learn more things about his life and work here.
On 30 January we celebrate Peace Day at schools. You will do different activities in your English classes to commemorate this day. Apart from that you can also enjoy these subtitled videos of the famous speech I Have a Dream by Martin Luther King. Take your time to think about his words:
